DESIGNER/SPACE PLANNER

This position is based in New Orleans, The Designer/Space Planner works on design projects that involve direct contact with sales staff, project managers or clients of Workplace Solutions. The Designer/Space Planner reports directly to the Studio Director. The Designer seeks to continually align with project team leadership to accomplish Workplace Solutions business objectives.

Workplace Solutions is looking for the following traits in a Designer/Space Planner:

  • Experienced in both digital and traditional forms of design services
  • Ownership for project deliverables; strong communications and project management skills
  • High attention to detail and a keen eye for graphics
  • Understanding of and respect for the role of the consumer with the Workplace Solutions business unit

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with customers to gather project information (surveys, interviews, data collection, observations)
  • Perform field measures, product inventory and product research
  • Produce and present design concepts to internal and external clients
  • Produce furniture block plans, space plans, finish palettes, furniture specifications, and installation drawings
  • Assist with design proposals
  • Manage project hours
  • May perform project audits for other designers
  • Serve as mentor to other designers as determined by level of experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s (BA) Degree in Interior or Architectural Design from college or university
  • 3-5 years’ design experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced proficiency in a variety of software: AutoCAD, CET Designer, 20/20 CAP, Google Sketchup
  • Must have understanding of CAD and graphic design
  • Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple programs at a time to deliver on deadline
  • Knowledge of Steelcase products a plus
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills with a passion to provide solutions to client needs
  • You can expect to: stand and sit for extended periods; operate computers, and other ancillary office equipment
  • You like communicating with others through face-to-face interaction
  • You will enjoy working in an office environment with moderate noise
  • Seeing, color perception, hearing/listening, clear speech, touching (dexterity)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to transportation to client sites around the Greater New Orleans Region
  • Complex reading and writing skills, basic math skills, judgment/decision making, analysis/comprehension
