a look back.....
Our 10,000 sq. ft. showroom is the largest in Mississippi.
Located in downtown Jackson Mississippi the building was constructed in 1908 for the Penick and Ford Syrup factory.  The building was partially destroyed by fire in 1927 and a renovation in 1930 included the addition of a freight elevator that is still in use today.
Prohibition left its mark on the building when it was used as a repository for illegal alcoholic beverages seized by the sheriff's department, and it was pressed into service in World War II as a military rations storage facility.
During the 50's a third floor was added and the Southern United Ice Company was located on what is now our parking lot. However, as long distance trucking replaced railroad shipping for freight transportantion , the ice company's business declined, and ultimately the building was demolished.
In 1979 Barefield & Company purchased the building and used it for warehousing until renovation was accomplished in 1984.
Most recently the showroom has been completely remodled since 2005 and now showcases the latest from Steelcase and Office Funiture USA.  We invite you to come by and have a look around.
